Hello everybody,

Just a quick note that I've added a sidebar to allow donations.

The costs for the Spellborn Fan Hub are each month about €25, and any help covering these would be nice [Image: default_smile.png]

So far the ads haven't even covered a single month, so if you want to support us, feel free to do so!

Thanks,

Kevin

Sounds expensive. Have a look at this: https://www.campusspeicher.de/webhosting/ (german). They're very cheap and reliable (I have my site there since many years).

Edit:Also, i'm seeing this: "Error: Could not load template 'hookDonateSidebar' from group 'boards'" instead.

Polymo, the website isn't on shared hosting but on a VPS, that's why the costs are a lot higher.

We used to be on shared hosting, but I've gone away from that for a very good reason.

I'm going to check the error you get.

The reason I've moved over:

All downtime from our previous webhost.

The one i mentioned has very few downtimes (they also offer virtual servers), and yes, i see this is quite a lot what you got there.

Ever since then I've gone to DigitalOcean, where we have been running without any issues at all. The reason why we're at $20 for the Fan Hub is simple: $12.5 for our server itself (which is very reasonable, with SSD disks). Next to that there are the domain costs, our external backup service which we use and the costs of Invision Power Board. Adding that all up we're at about $23-25 a month.

I'm going to make this post a bit more clear [Image: default_smile.png]

The costs we have are as follows:
 • Monthly base cost for our server: $10 monthly
 • Back-ups for our server: $ 2.50 monthly
 • Spellborn.org domain name: € 7.99 + € 1.68 tax = € 9.67 annually
 • Invision Power Board license: $50 annually
 • PayPal donation fees. On a donation of €5, we need to pay €0,52 fees. Those are added into the calculation (about $25, but could be more).
Added that all up we're at about $22 a month or about $260 for a year.

So all in all, this might look like a lot, but at the moment it's the best option we have. I could switch forum software, but this might break a lot of things and it might be a lot of misery to solve those.

Also a note, you don't have to use PayPal. If you like to use another way to donate, just send me a PM and we'll look into what's possible [Image: default_wink.png].

If you don't want to or can't donate, please disable adblock. I can't ask you to click the ads (it's against the rules), but wink wink, nudge nudge, know what I mean, say no more. The ads never even got to the pay-out level yet so... [Image: default_tongue.png]

I couldn't replicate your issue btw, is it already solved or do you still get that message?

That's very expensive. A friend of mine was paying that price per year for hosting a gaming website.
Adblock disabled and clicked on few ads ^^
