Any special file you're looking for ?

Here's my current folder info on the computer.

(I'm also using these files for decompiling etc, but mostly use the 0.8 version to test / work on)

Greetings Jan-Willem.

Lol, if it is as easy as that we would allready have gotten much further into getting the game running again.

The Gameguard software is trying to connect to it's own server where the license of Spellborn is long outdated.

In other words starting up the game of Spellborn where the gameguard software is active might be hard to get a good working version of the game.

You can see if you can find and download one of the beta versions like 0.8 where this Gameguard software is not yet build in, but as you might have guessed

it's has not the same contect as we played during the last active period on the Acclaim servers.

The other way, which several people allready are trying, is to be able to get into the files via the Unreal engine since this is the foundation on which

the game of Spellborn is build on.

Acid and I are still peeking and poking a lot in the files of the several versions, and by doing this we learn more and more, but also makes it more clear

that a lot of programming has been done by the devs at that time.

This makes it harder to get our thingers behind the things that we need to get the contents out of all the SB files.

If I write for myself, got my hands on some tutorials of Unreal development, 3D studio and some more things to test it out.

did some programming in Delphi pascal to write a reader/writer program for the SB files, but this thing is only in use by Acid and me.

Btw, if you want to see some more images then check out some of my recent posts here on the forum.

Greetings Jan-Willem.

JW,

I have also been working here and there to decode the SB files from the tCoS client. My idea was to use the included DLLs to see if they have any methods able to extract standard Unreal level mesh and level data. I've gotten as far as extracting the classes/methods/properties, and I'll be working on creating include files for them in order to bring them into a new VS project.

I'd be very interested in helping your efforts in any way that I can. I can't tell you how much it bothers me that I can't explore the shards. When the game was still up, my PC at the time didn't like the Unreal rendering engine, so I couldn't play past Hawkwind. I keep seeing and collecting these gorgeous screenshots of the game.

Anyway, I hope you and Acid still have an interest in the game.

Nice to see some more talented people who want to bring SB back to life.

Of course JW and Acid are still interested in spellborn. They only don't check the forums every day i think so just wait a little bit for an answer.

What lies hidden. must be found

Hey Ellikah,

Yes off course we're Acid and me are still busy with the Spellborn client program, but as you might have read from other threads here on the forum, it's not an easy paved road that we're following.

Since we're both from the Netherlands you might think it's easy to get info from the devs, but it seems that they just wanna let the game for what it is.

In other words no revival or other rework will be done by someone of the original team which is spread out from the Spellborn team.

Acid did get some respones on his youtube channel as well, maybe we should get a few more heads together to share information.

From the guild named International on the PVP server of TCOS we're still active in gaming but nowadays more in the game of dungeons and dragons online.

We use a ventrilo server there, maybe it's best to get in contact there so we can hear / tell what's the current state of your and our work.

For me personally, I can say that I try to read more and more and follow online tutorials for Unreal 2004 and 3DS max like programs and still miss out on some C++ hands on work, since I'm more a Delphi (pascal) programmer.

My own written tool to get the most info out of the TCOS files is written by me using the original files from Acordero.

I would say, give some respons and we can see how it will go along.

Also nice to see Kaiyn is still the one who has high trust in us [Image: sweat.gif]

Hi JW,

I'm glad to hear that you're still working on the project, daunting as it is. I found one of the other threads on the forum related to your progress so far (http://forum.spellborn.org/index.php?/to...spellborn, not sure if there are others), and the UnrealEd screens are particularly nice to see. Clearly you guys are far beyond where I'm at.

The most useful thing I have so far is an extracted list of DLL classes/methods/properties/constants, in this format:

ALAudio.dll - public: __thiscall FALAudioStream::FALAudioStream(class FALAudioStream *,class FCriticalSection *)

There are 59,800 entries in total. My understanding is that, if these values can be tweaked into the right format and placed in a .h file, the DLLs can be accessed by a new program. I haven't done much programming in C++ though, so I can't anticipate the complication that would come up.

Of course, maybe you and Acid are already past that point.

Anyway, I'd love to help in any way that I can. Please let me know if you get a ventrillo conference together. In the meantime, I'm going to dig into Acordero and UnrealEd 2004.
