Hello everybody!

Recently we've gotten a few spam posts (five, to date) which are really annoying. Both spamming users are permabanned from now and spamming is unacceptable. In a hope to stop any spam here, I've highered the captcha difficulty. Should you have a problem with them, mail me ([email protected]) and I'll help you register without a captcha.

Lol... with the technology on the site, bots shouldn't even be able to get on the site...

Nevermind, it doesn't work... some of our most active people will see an invite to become moderators in their inbox soon.

I don't see how they can bypass the captcha in the first place.

You can bypass a CAPTCHA by using an OCR program. That means: a program that can read text. They keep making those programs better and better so it becomes harder and harder to avoid spam by using CAPTCHA's. They don't bypass the CAPTCHA, they solve it.

Another possibility is that they do it manually. That way they don't have to hack anything or bypass anything...

The easiest way to stop bots from registering on the site is to make a custom field with a text like "Enter the number five in this field" and then on registration check if the field contains "5".

Those spam-bots are programmed to cope with standard anti-spambot-modules (i.e. simple standard captchas). Make something custom and they'll give up.

Alternatively integrate reCAPCHA - they're one of the best.

I tried to integrate reCAPTCHA, it failed. Will look into it whenever I can. I also added some alternative questions to the registration page, but those are bypassed too...

Two, to be correct. First one posted 3 posts, other one 2. I've deleted those posts and banned the 2 users behind it, but I'm going to need some more mods. I can't stay logging in at school Smile
