It's mainly because we're using a VPS, which always costs more.

For a VPS, $12.50 is actually very cheap [Image: default_tongue.png]

A VPS is a virtual private server, which means that we get a part of a dedicated server which we can manage as we see fit.

The Fan Hub has grown beyond shared hosting, so the cheap hosting isn't really something we can still use... our site has grown too big and too heavy on resources for that.

On a cheap webhost, you often get only a small percentage of computing power and RAM. If you cross those barriers, you will get blocked or put offline, or you'll be forced to pay a lot more.

On a VPS, you are assured control over a set amount of computing power (processor cores), a set amount of RAM and disk space. In our case, we have 1 virtual processor core, 1GB of RAM and 30GB of SSD disk space (and 2 TB of bandwith). That's more than enough for our site right now [Image: default_wink.png].

Our webhost is one of the cheapest (but most decent!) VPS providers around, and I've hosted the Fan Hub for over a year now with them, without not even 1 issue with them at all. So if you are interested in a VPS, feel free to join them. If you use my affiliate link for them, you also get $10 for free (which means 2 months for free on the cheapest plan), and you'll also support me/the Fan Hub: <a data-ipb="nomediaparse" href="https://www.digitalocean.com/?refcode=16782a6b1154%C2%A0">https://www.digitalocean.com/?refcode=16782a6b1154 </a>

Our previous host was Versio, a Dutch budget host which was fine in the beginning but we ended up having so many issues (and downtime!) with them that I finally moved away from them.

I've clarified my earlier post with some more information and a more complete breakdown of the hosting costs.

I haven't had much time in the last few days, but I'd like to thank all of you for everything you're doing. And that's not just only donating, but also the moderators (<a data-ipb="nomediaparse" href="https://www.spellborn.org/index.php?app=forums&module=extras&section=stats&do=leaders">https://www.spellborn.org/index.php?app=forums&module=extras&section=stats&do=leaders</a>) who have done a great job managing the large amount of spam-registrations we've had the last few months (special thanks to JW-NL and acid-burn for their hard work!), all of you involved in getting the Spellborn world alive again and much more.

Years ago, when we just heard that Spellborn was going to get shutdown, I didn't hesitate for a moment to start the Fan Hub, and years later, I haven't regretted it for a moment. And that's all thanks to you guys [Image: default_wink.png].

I feared that it would only be days before the official site and forums would go away, so I started this and sadly, it's the last remaining active Spellborn-related site, but I'm glad that all of you are here.

Thanks for the support and everything guys!

A little note, I do send everybody that donates a small email (it's personal, not copy/paste or a premade one) to thank you [Image: default_smile.png] I'm looking forward to see if I can do something to reward you, but I think that'll have to wait until IPB 4 releases.

In any case, I love you guys!

In my case I do see the donation box in Firefox and Chrome without problems. I tried it logged out and logged in.

I use Firefox ver. 35.0.1. and Chrome 40.0.2214.115m.

Ah, it's the same as slink for me, i can see it when signed out, but not when logged in.

Edit: and interestingly, when signed out i have the old visual theme, but when signed in it's the boring white one (and no way to change it, but that may just be my firefox).

Strange, strange!

I'll fix most of these issues though when IPS.Board 4 comes out (which should be soon). I'll have to change a lot of things when it is released [Image: default_tongue.png]

By the way, there's a new browser on the market (and I'm loving it). Time to spread it some more, so...:
